Scarlet Macaw

(Ara Macao)

Its easy enough to tell a Scarlet Macaw from all the others, once you know the trick; white facial feathers. These give the Scarlet the appearance of having no feather patterns on their face, which can make them seem even more expressive than their Macaw cousins. Of course, the Scarlet also is easily spotted by its beautiful feather colors, usually including all three primary colors. There is a debate going on about the Scarlet Macaw personality. While some find these parrots too nippy, some belive this is a myth caused by those who handle the Scarlet with too much care and encourage it to assert itself. The Scarlet is a highly intelligent parrot who will control its surroundings if allowed, and seem to be aware of those people who are intimidated by it. Many highly respected people claim that a Scarlet Macaw does best in an extremely nuturing enviroment, which for us means one where we spend more one on one time meeting our parrots needs than we would with other parrots. Scarlets should be provided with plenty of toys and learning experiences, keeping their brilliant minds active is key to helping them grow into the fantastic companion parrot they can be.

Thank you Linda, for allowing us to show the above photo of Mitzi, she is beautiful.
