Queen Of Bavaria or Golden Conure
(Guaruba guarouba)
These beautiful parrots are endangered and require a special captive bred permit in order to be kept in the United States. Like all conures they have a very loud scream, but in addition to that it is very common for the young parrots to chew their feathers. Because these birds are so rare many people think she should only be kept in pairs for breeding to increase their population. During a study done in 1984 it was estimated that there were only 5000 of these birds left in the wild, and they have had major habitat destruction since that time. Undeniably one of the most striking members of the conure family these beautiful parrots should be protected and loved.
A special thanks to Hugh, for giving me this photo of a Golden Conure. Author of the photo and the birds name is unknown, if this is yours please contact me for proper credit.
