Poicephalus - The hidden Gems of Africa

Living room acrobatics, rope climbing galore, antics and talking, all these come with the Poicephalus species. These fantastic little birds are wonderful companion parrots and entertaining friends.  The small parrots who live with this giant species name are known for one thing more than any other, their love of playing.

If you decide to share your life with a parrot from this genius you must be prepared to provide plenty of space for them. They will need a large cage, and a good playground in order to keep them fully entertained. It has been said often that a bored Poicephalus will escape and make its own mischief to entertain itself, better to keep your bird busy and happy.

Members of this species are fantastic "starter" parrots for those afraid of the larger birds, and wonderful parrots to keep in flocks. Having a Senegal, Myers, and Jardines in your home would be like having an acrobatic troop living in your bird room. Not only are these wonderful birds enjoyable, they are intelligent.

Poicephalus parrots are known to be talking parrots, with sweet voices. They are also well known for picking up household sounds, such as phones, microwave beeps, alarm clock noises and any other that catches their attention.

The parrots of Poicephalus have a reputation for developing heightened reactions, behaviors that usually show up as fearfulness or fearlessness. Many a Poicephalus has tried to take on a African Grey parrot when in the mood, or cower from the hand of a beloved owner if in a frightened mood. Spending time daily with your parrot can help to control these issues, and to help control any territorial behaviors that may crop up, and besides, who wouldn't like to spend time with a bird who enjoys playing on its back in the palm of your hand?
