Outreach Services

Public Forums

Feathered Family is glad to reach out to any public forum to help educate about parrots. We have been featured on a local Colorado pet television program (Pet Peeves), have been written up in a national magazine (All You Magazine), have contributed some articles to an online magazine (My sweet Pet) and are happy to do anything else we can to increase the public knowledge regarding parrots, proper parrot care, and parrot rescue. Please, feel free to contact us if you feel we can help you with a project that will help make sure parrots receive the proper love and care they deserve.

Classroom or Club Presentations

Feathered Family is happy to offer educational presentations. We are happy to bring our bird’s, and our knowledge to your Class, Parrot Club, or special event.

Some of our resident parrots are familiar with doing special activities, and enjoy meeting and greeting new people. We never put any parrot that dislikes groups into these situations, and not all parrots are available for all activities. Most times at least one of our personal companion parrots are available for events and will accompany us, along with resident birds who enjoy this kind of socialization.

We are happy to do thirty to sixty minute presentations. We have two focuses available, general parrot education and public education. Our General presentation focuses mainly on parrot care, needs, diet, and the how and why of living with a parrot. Our Public education presentation is much more geared to adults, and deals with conservation, specialized breeding, and rescue.

We do offer these presentations free of charge, as long as they are local for us. Any extended driving, or overnight stays need to be paid for up front. We do not do adoption fairs, as our adoption process is far more detailed than we could possibly get into with a short presentation.

Pet Therapy or Home Visits

Feathered Family is proud to announce our new Pet Therapy Plan.

We understand the healing powers of animals, and we think parrots are no exception to that rule. By bringing parrots to ill or injured people who cannot come to them we hope to be able to brighten someone’s day. It has been shown that animals have a true therapeutic effect, emotional and physical.

Feathered Family wants to continue spreading the understanding and joy of parrots to everyone. By visiting nursing homes, children’s hospitals, assisted living facilities, and residences for people with special needs we hope to bring some of the joy we have each day to others. We are happy to bring our birds, large and small to your facility for the residents to meet and greet. Some birds can be touched, and we all know what healing touch animals have. Spending time with our resident birds is not only uplifting for the parrots, but also for the patient.

We are also happy to offer this service to the homebound patient. One does not need reside in a facility to have a Feathered Family parrot visit.

While we are happy to talk about parrot care, and parrots in general, our main goal with these visits is just to bring a bit of sunlight into peoples lives.

While we offer these services free of charge, donations are always welcome, and go straight to support the daily needs of the resident parrots of Feathered Family.
