Military Macaw

(Ara Militaris)

The often overlooked, and sometimes underpriced Military Macaw. Unfortunatly, these parrots seem for some reason to be less popular than the other large Macaws. Perhaps it is the name itself, giving people the idea that they are aggressive, which is not truly the case. Not the calmest of parrots, the Military Macaw does have a bit more of a wild temperment than its Blue and Gold cousin, but are no where near as nippy as some people believe. They of course need to be handled often to keep them entertained, and to help with training them not to nip, but those parrots who have their needs met can be exceptional companions. The best part about Military Macaws (in this authors opinion) is that they are so underappriciated at this time, allowing those who want to add one to their home and flock a much greater choice of parrots to choose from.
