Mealy Amazons

(Amazona Farinosa)

The largest of Companion Amazons the Mealy Amazons are gentle giants. Known for their donky-like bray, these birds are popular companion parrots. With their stable personalites they can be harder to tease into biting than some of the other amazons. They can be hard on those who have allergies though, as a healthy Mealy will have a good covering of powder on its feathers. With a reputation for being the loudest of the Amazons they are not appropriate parrots for those who live in close quarters with others that do not share their appriciation of bird noise. The lifespan of a Mealy Amazon can match that of other large parrots, generally 50-100 years, with excellent care.
