Charlie is a 15-17 year old Blue and Gold macaw. Charlie has been feather abusing for many years and will not be able to regrow a good deal of her feathers. She is so funny, and so outgoing, its heartbreaking to see people turn away from her because she's a bald bird.

Charlie has a very special job in life, Charlie takes care of Joey who is a very special needs handicapped blue and gold. Charlie takes her job very seriously and will protect Joey from any potential threat. If you earn her trust you can play with both her and Joey, but it takes time and patience.

Charlie has opened up more and more to the volunteer staff at Feathered Family. She will even make short trips away from Joey now, interacting with the humans comfortably. She allows some minor touching, and steps up very well without any threat behaviors now. Charlie has a lot of personality, loves to make humans laugh, and is very good at problem solving behaviors. She really is a special bird and we enjoy sharing our time with her.

    We are in the process of making arrangements to help Joey and Charlie go to a lifetime Sanctuary where they will be allowed to live out their lives in a flock of blue and gold macaws. While we can work with both birds, and we love them both, we feel the chances of them finding a home together are extremely minimal and we do not believe they should sit in a rescue for life because of their special bond. They will be allowed to stay together at the sanctuary. We believe that this is in their best interest, as they deserve to be happy and healthy and live in the most natural environment possible.
