Catalina Macaw (Hybrid)

Cross between Ara Ararauna and Ara Macaco

The stunning Catalina macaw is often mistaken for his hybrid brother, the Harlequin. The Catalina is actually a cross breeding between the Scarlet Macaw and the Blue and Gold Macaw. A full sized macaw, with a full sized personality these birds will be sure to make their presence known in any home. They are wonderful talkers, and strong fliers. One should never take a macaw unless willing and able to provide for its needs, including but not limited to a very large cage and a very large play area. Macaws of all kinds require attention in order to remain happy. Like its cousins the Catalina Macaw is capable of chewing enormous amounts of wood, be it in toys or your furniture.

While we do not promote Hybrid birds, we cannot deny they exist, and therefore we feel that providing information on them is important. Education is the key to success with any parrot, and our main goal at Feathered Family.

A special thank you to Deb R. for sharing the top photo of Isis, a young Catalina hen.
