Amboina King Parrot or Moluccan King Parrot

(Alisterus a.amboinenis)

These little known parrots should grow to incredibly popular numbers in aviculture soon. Not only beautiful, but reportedly quiet and gentle in nature they fit into human homes and lives with ease. These mid-sized birds are reportedly active, but not hyperactive. Not known to cling to people, these wonderful birds have a knack for entertaining themselves, but also a desire to socalize with their human flock. The ability of the Amboina King parrot to speak does not hurt its popularity either, as their voices are reported to be soft and sweet to listen to. An average sized Amboina King will grow to 14 inches, but they can grow to 19 inches on occasion. One must keep in mind that there is no difference in appearance between the male and female of this species, so a DNA test is needed if you are determined to know the sex of your bird. It is also important to remember that with the long tails of these birds, its is best to cage them in a manner that they will have not only plenty of room to perch but plenty of room to turn around. Wider is considered better than longer when it comes to caging, and remember, the biggest cage possible is always the best choice.
